Samuel Fake Snr: was born in Badwell in 1796. He married Mary Taylor on 15th Feb 1821 in Chippenham, Cambridge. They had one daughter, Mary Anne Fake. Mary died in 1829 and Samuel married Mary Ann Groom from Bacton in 1831. They had a further 2 daughters, Isabella and Emma Jane and a son Samuel. Samuel Snr was a wheelwright in The Street, on the site of Rumbles Fish Bar. Samuel died by accidental drowning on 30th January 1867 aged 71 and was buried on 07th February. It was reported in the Bury Free Press on February 9th 1867 that Samuel was last seen in the Fox Inn in Elmswell at about 9pm and told others in the Inn that he was going to walk home. He was found the following morning, fully dressed in the small stream near the bridge at the bottom of Mill Hill. It was deduced that due to the very wet and windy weather and perhaps Samuel had been the worse for drink that he fell into the stream and drowned.
