Thomas Richer: was born in 1767, died in May 1842 aged 75 and was buried on 2nd June. Described as ‘An Independent’ on the 1841 Census and living on The Street. Both Richer Road and Richer Close in the Village are named after him. He set up a Charity for the poor with the payments to the poor to be distributed in coals. He was a founder member of “The Badwell Ash Association for the Prosecution of Felons” and was a Churchwarden and Magistrate. Listed as paying Tax in the year 1798 of £25/12 shillings. He had married Sarah Francis on 25th September 1792 in Cotton.
