You’re probably thinking that this is a subject to avoid! But, to a Historian, the tax schedules can give a unique insight into who lived in the village at any one time. Badwell Ash is fortunate to have complete schedules of tax payers from the Subsidy Return of 1283 in the reign of Edward I right up to The Tithe Act of 1836.
