Hester Maria Payne: born in 1826, died on 24th December 1916 aged 90 and was buried on 29th December in the same plot as her brother, George. Sister to George Edward Payne she lived at Badwell Ash Hall under her own means. She was a great benefactress to the village even setting up a Charity in her name to support the poor of the village and the church, which exists today. Hester Maria Payne was born in Hepworth, where her father, Edward was rector. She was one of four children but the only daughter.
